TechLetters #187 Hacking renewable energy farm control systems. Hacking TV stations. Web timing attack techniques.
I have been appointed as a Visiting Senior Research Fellow at the King’s College London War Studies Department. At the same time, I remain open to engagements in security and privacy, where I may bring strong knowledge and experiences in technical, but also in policy, and strategy matters.
Security
Hacker took control of the control of 4 million photovoltaic panels in the Netherlands. It turned out to be very simple. Cyber security of renewable energy sources is going to be a problem. New requirements and regulations will have to be developed.
Hacking TV stations for information warfare. Ukraine cyber operators apparently hacked 9 (small) Russian TV stations to broadcast videos showing war situation ('Ukrainian soldiers and Russian casualties'). That would be an interesting cyber-enabled information warfare.
Exploiting web timing attacks. In practical ways.
